As the New York Fashion Week wraps, we have begun to see trends unfolding. With accessories like sunglasses, trends often act as overarching multi-season movements.
We can see these styles fine-tuning as the shows continue from city to city. Accessories trends reflect the larger movement of the clothes. If minimalism is happening in the apparel industry, we can expect to see a round of minimalist glasses trends come our way as well.
As the Spring/Summer ‘25 shows unfold, it’s clear next year will be all about balancing personal style with real-world practicality. Expect glasses that rely heavily on the classics but with refined updates rather than never-before-seen reinventions.
Expect to see a resurgence of the ‘90s with thin, sleek sunglasses with silhouettes that barely cover the eyes. Racer, sports-inspired utility sunglasses are still in fast effect, combining metal frames with tinted reflective lenses and frameless styles. On the other end of the spectrum, chunky, playful, and oversized frames are still wildly popular showing at the likes of Prada and Ulla Johnson. Read on for more sartorial inspiration for your 2025 sunglasses game straight from the runways.
Playful & chunky
Ulla Johnson sent frames in green, purple, pink, and taupe down the runway, each with an oversized and whimsical flair, while Prada went for a more editorial take. Prada sent cartoonishly large bug-eyed frames down the runways, alongside other quirky iterations (including an almost near-identical take on a lampshade). Chunky frames often return to style when a jovial edge needs to be reinvigorated into fashion, and it’s clear 2025 will be the time to get playful.
Tried-and-true metals
On the men’s side, we can look to Emporio Armani for their well-established casual take on Italian menswear. Their Spring/Summer ‘25 collection led models down the runway in strong metal frames in round and rectangular shapes. With classic shapes like these, the metal material leads the way and each piece shows sartorial elegance.
Slim shady
Slim silhouettes are back – and not in the ultra-mini silhouettes of years prior. Sleek sunglasses, well worn during the late ‘90s and early ‘00s, will continue to trend during spring and summer next year. This versatile and flattering style remains chic and minimalist, whether you partake in the oval-shaped versions of Acne, the tinted version of Gentle Monsters, or the mini embellished frames from Armani.
Sport utilitarian
A trend that relies on functionality and defies genders, it’s no wonder we continue to see sports-infused fads across the runways. Mimicking similar silhouettes to the ‘90s shades referenced previously, these thin and elongated frames are the perfect juxtaposition of sporty and stylish.
From sculptural jewels to candy-tinted lenses, we can expect to see an array of athletic frames in 2025. Coperni relied on classic reflective, goggled-shaped frames while Louis Vuitton Men’s showcased pastel-tinted lenses punctuated with a contrasting frame.
Sabato de Sarno went even further in the Gucci menswear show, sending models down the runway with wraparound sunglasses with Gucci-adorned strap-like chokers. These sunglass straps proved that the classic sports accessory can take a very chic turn.
